progress
To start this assignment, I spent a few days coming up with a narrative of my first year experience as an architecture student in Taylor's.
I wrote out what were my feelings and emotions and started to relate them to design and how I want my model to look like representing each of my feelings and emotions.
After having my design narrative, I decided to list down actions and movement I wan in my model.
After that, I began sketching ideas I had for my model
After that, I began sketching ideas of my model I had in mind and show them to my tutor during tutorial session.
Initial sketches
Initially, I wanted to go with pentagon shapes as it shows chaotic entrance which was what I wanted. | I played with different heights along my model sketch. | Random arrangement of pentagons as entrance of my model |
---|---|---|
Having two entrances in my model according to my narrative. | Some sketch ideas given by Mr Chern after asking for some feedback. | Showing the contrast of two parts of my model in terms of actions and spaces. |

reflection
From this assignment, I'm able to produce design concepts through the process of exploring various sources and abstracting ideas, relate the idea of the individual ‘self’ and the body’ to space and its experiential qualities, establish a basic level of understanding of materiality and detailing as means to capture experiential qualities of the design and demonstrate satisfactory manual drawing and model-making skills to represent and communicate the design.
In this assignment, I learnt about how to do research based on my feelings and emotions as a first year student to and come up with a space. I learn to apply suitable spaces in my model along trying different materials. Besides that, I also learn how to translate my narrative into a designed space.
As I'm required to present to invited people from the architecture industry, I had to prepare myself to ensure I can let them know what I want to express about my model. I learnt how to present bravely and also using the right words in order for them to understand what I want to deliver. This presentation also helped me in improving my presentation skill.
As this was the final assignment, I struggled a lot as I also have other modules' assignments to rush with. I learnt how to manage my time properly although extension were not given. I did not procrastinate a lot as I was quite stuck and constantly out of ideas, I wanted to finish my model as fast as possible and I managed to complete my model and drawings on time.
